March 23 2020
It’s a brave new, fucked up world out there.
I have been procrastinating long enough and have decided to try my hand at this blogging thing again. Considering I don’t currently have a job due to the COVID19 monster, I might as well do something creative besides lurking on FB and watching “On The Tools” videos. At least this way I can post whatever I like and if people don’t like it they can chose to go elsewhere.
2020 has been an interesting year so far, without a doubt. First and foremost, I have a new love in my life and her name is Fernanda, As I sit here in Social Isolation at her townhouse in Vancouver, I can’t help but wonder how long this iteration of The UnRed will last. Only time will tell… I’m trying my best to be optimistic.
This last week alone has been a whirlwind. March 13, a Friday the 13th no less, turned out to be my last night of work for the winter. I was nearing the end my 8th graveyard grooming shift for Whistler Mtn. and was at home asleep. Woke about 3PM Saturday afternoon and checked FB for whatever reason and read that Vail had decided to shut down operations for a week. Two extra days off, for which we were paid to soften the blow. The day before we’d had a crew meeting where we were told the Ski Hill was planning to stay open. By Tuesday the plan had changed again and we were informed the ski season was essentially over. Given the global pandemic situation, I was neither surprised or angry, just a bit sad.
As the situation continues to deteriorate and people are too stubborn or too stupid to heed the warnings, I need an outlet for my anxieties and fears. I also need to maintain a level of hope and creativity that will carry me through these troubled times.
Here goes nothing…
