I had a summer job between grades 11 and 12 at the Placer Developments’ Geochem lab, thanks to my Mum who was the head of Records Management at head office at the time. I enjoyed working there that summer and when the opportunity arose to work there again, I literally leapt at it. It was awesome. Four day weeks, better pay, benefits, a challenging work environment with the possibility of advancement, what wasn’t to like. Unfortunately, in the summer of 1982, the economy shit the bed and after nine months with the company I found myself S.O.L. and looking for work again. At least I got a solid severance package that set the stage for the next installment in my life… Australia!
